By converting differential CAN/CAN FD signals into CMOS logic levels, engineers can leverage low-cost tools (logic analyzers, MCUs, or oscilloscope trigger inputs) for long-duration monitoring, fault analysis, and automated testing—without impacting the original bus.
Since native CAN signals are differential and not referenced to ground, it is difficult to use a single CAN line as a stable trigger source, especially without a solid common ground. This conversion enables reliable triggering and precise time correlation.
For example, users can accurately capture when the CAN network goes silent and when the first frame resumes, and correlate this timing with external I/O signals on an oscilloscope for faster debugging.
